Brian C. Verrelli received his Ph.D. from the Department of Ecology and Evolution at Stony Brook University. He is Director of the Center for Life Sciences Education, which houses the Integrative Life Sciences Ph.D. and Environmental Studies and Bioinformatics M.S. Programs, at Virginia Commonwealth University. His research program focuses on molecular population and evolutionary genetic and genomic approaches using DNA and RNA sequence variation in comparative population and species models. These research approaches are applied to problems at the intersection of human health and disease, biodiversity, and conservation using a myriad of model and non-model organisms.

"Cities are microcosms of the evolutionary changes that are occurring on a planetary scale and thus provide a natural laboratory to advance our understanding of eco-evolutionary dynamics in a rapidly urbanizing world."
